As hard as it is to believe Pembroke Dock played a massively important role in the Star Wars trilogy in the late 1970s.
Pembroke Dock was involved in the creation of the only full scale sized Millennium Falcon, the spaceship used in the original Star Wars films.
The local company which won the contract to build the replica of the Millennium Falcon, which normally was associated with steel fabrications for the petrochemical and oil industries.
The final replica was claimed to have weighed nearly 23 tonnes and was 70ft in diameter. The replica was also fitted with compressed air hover pads, so the whole thing actually floated on a cushion of air about a 16th of an inch betwen the feet and the floor.
After being built the Millennium falcon was required to be moved to a sound stage at Elstree, it was dismantled and then transported on lorries and put back together at Elstree
