Article: Potato lovers from all across Wales will flock to the biggest Potato Festival in Wales on Saturday 9th June. As Pembrokeshire is world renowned for having the tastiest potatoes in Wales, this new festival seeks to celebrate the potato, Welsh style. Although the Irish are known for their love of potatoes, the Welsh are quickly catching up!
The celebration takes place at Pembroke Town Hall and Main Street on the 9th June 2007. The all day festival will give foodies, gourmets and potato lovers plenty of time to taste, eat, and buy the best potatoes in Wales.
There are a wide range of activities on offer, including talks, competitions, street entertainment, games, work shops for children and cookery demonstrations.
Elizabeth Gossage, organiser of the Pembroke Potato Festival explains, “People all over the UK are getting more and more interested in food miles and this is a rare chance to sample fresh local produce, as close to the farms as possible. This is a unique opportunity for visitors to be the first people in Wales to sample this first early crop of Pembrokeshire potatoes, direct from source.
“The Pembrokeshire Potato Festival promises to be a really exciting event. There will be a wide range of activities on offer for all the family and plenty of opportunities to learn how to cook a potato in loads of tasty ways. We will have tastings, cookery demonstrations; there will really be something for everyone!â€Â
The Pembrokeshire Potato Festival is organised by Pembroke Farmers’ Market, a collaboration of Pembroke 21C Community Association Ltd and Pembroke Country Markets. The event is run in association with PLANED, and is supported by the Welsh Assembly Government’s Food and Market Development Division and Pembroke NFU Mutual.
